ESPN Films: 30 for 30 “Playing For The Mob”

The Boston College basketball point shaving scandal is finally documented

If you’ve ever watched the legendary mobster film Goodfellas, then you should have some insight on the infamous Boston College Basketball point shaving scandal from the 1970s. While there still hasn’t been a theatrical release of the story, Goodfellas gave a glimpse into how the mafia world had their hands in control over college basketball 35 years ago. In the film, the mastermind behind the scheme, Henry Hill was portrayed by Ray Liotta.

The mafia associate passed away 2 years ago due to heart disease, but ESPN Films was fortunate enough to get a breakdown of the events from the ringleader and former associate of the legendary Lucchese Cosa Nostra family.

For the first time ever, exact details are broken down on how Hill, along with the Perla brothers convinced a small group of students to make them millions – including direct interviews with key players from the team.
