West Coast Music From Soundtracks

Remember when Original Motion Picture Soundtracks were hotter than albums? This was back in the ’90s, for the most part, when the music from the film was just as important as the film itself. We grew up with plenty of classics, and often find ourselves blasting music from soundtracks just as much, when we flashback to the golden era of Hip-Hop.

Recently, we noticed that a lot of West Coast songs were found on a variety of soundtracks. Plenty of artists represented Cali throughout various works. Whether it was Menace II Society, Above The Rim, Boyz N The Hood, Friday or Poetic Justice, veterans like DJ Quik, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, 2pac, all blessed the films with classic records.

We explored this and put together a playlist of nothing but West Coast music, taken from original soundtracks. You might have forgotten about some of these but we sure haven’t. Sit back and take a trip down memory lane, after the jump.

West, west y’all.
