The birth of 50 cent

Get Rich Or Die Trying is undoubtedly, 50 Cent‘s best album to date, but it took a lot of hard work and grind to even get to that point. “Magnum Opus” explores a little bit of how that album and specifically “Patiently Waiting” came together, talking to everyone involved in the record. From G-Unit, to Paul Rosenberg, Mike Elizondo (engineer) and even 50 & Em themselves.

They all speak on how they heard Fif’s music to begin with, which set up the signing to Shady Records and saw the buzz for G-Unit to soar through the roof. Eminem was working on 8 Mile and The Eminem Show at the time, but was so blown away by his music that he had to work with him immediately.

He then sent him some beats after they announced the deal and most of them were skeletons 50 formed melodies around. Em was not even supposed to be on that particular song, but after he heard what Curtis did to it, he jumped on it. They say the track embodies exactly what 50 was bringing to the table at that point. It was his welcoming.
