Nas “Time Is Illmatic” Tickets Now Available

Take a theatrical trip to Queensbridge this October

20 years after Nasir Jones released his groundbreaking debut album Illmatic, he invites the world into the creation process and inspirations behind his classic. The legendary Queens rapper is nearing the official release for his one-night only showcasing of Time Is Illmatic in theaters and offers up a new trailer to the project.

Returning to his childhood home of Queensbridge, Nasir opens up on his upbringing in the tough environments and being influenced by his father and Jazz musician, Olu Dara. Album producers Large Professor, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, DJ Premier and L.E.S. all chime in with their experience of making the timeless project for the 19-year-old emcee – along with Pharrell Williams and Alicia Keys also discussing the project’s impact over the years.

The documentary film premieres October 1st in NYC and Los Angeles, and then select theaters on October 2nd. If you miss out on the festivities, the film will also be available October 3rd on iTunes and On Demand. While the evolving rapper may still be creating music for new listeners in the present (see: Studio Remix), there’s much to learn about the background story to the rapper who created one of the greatest albums ever for any genre.
