The MMG rapper speaks briefly with Billboard Magazine
Over the last 48 hours, Meek Mill has been under harsh criticism for not responding directly to Drake on record and the real reasoning why he went on the social media rant last week – calling out his former musical peer. Only a few weeks from topping the Billboard charts earlier this month, the MMG rapper sat down with the publication to touch on an array of topics. He soon opened up on critics voicing their displeasure of his relationship with Nicki Minaj, maintaining a sense of privacy and transitioning to a family man from the streets in his brief conversation. While Meek is yet to hit the studio and record a response back to the Toronto rapper-singer, he teased fans moments ago that new material is arriving after he touches down in Montreal later today.

“You can’t be hard all the time, man,” he says of critics — such as rapper Joe Budden and, now, Drake — who suggest his romance is at odds with his hard-edged music. “There’s both sides to everything. What’s wrong with it? Jay Z was a street rapper and he had a girlfriend.”
“You want to be private with your girl once in a while,” says Meek. “I would love to be able to just walk down the street by ourselves.” Even close family members could inadvertently expose him. “Say my mom took a picture of me with no shirt on,” he says. “I’m skinny — I got a little bird chest and a fat stomach. I can’t really tell my mom not to take that picture, that I’m not trying to have that type of look in the streets.”
“I’m not the best person at putting words together. I can’t give you the melody,” concedes Meek. “But I might inspire somebody.”
