One film. One performance. One Night.

It’s no secret. Fans of Kendrick Lamar know that his major label debut good kid m.A.A.d city was a tale of one day in Compton, CA. Kendrick used his musical abilities to take fans into his world, painting pictures with words on what it was like to grow up in the CPT. Whether it was a first-hand account from near or afar, Dot gave listeners real stories that will live in infamy forever through his songs.

On August 9 at Sundance’s NEXT Fest, Kahlil Joseph will bring the album to life with the debut of his 14-minute short film “m.A.A.d.” The award-winning director’s lens dives deep into the streets of Los Angeles, with the real people who reside there.

The project was commissioned by K Dot himself and is not Khalil’s first time at Sundance. He also won for his work in Flying Lotus’ “Until The Quiet Comes” short film, which was filmed in the Nickerson Harden projects of Watts, CA.
