Kendrick Lamar Gives Update on Collaborative Project with J. Cole

“Initially, I make my music for people in prison, because they have time”

Earlier today, Hot 97 revealed Kendrick Lamar would be headlining their 2015 Summer Jam Stadium Stage. On a red eye from LAX, the Compton rapper would stop by Ebro in the Morning to reflect on his recently released project, To Pimp A Butterfly. After discussing his creation process, catering to prison inmates, using influences from his parents, the TDE representative said his album wasn’t a classic yet.

While many listeners and youths have given the project the highest ranking, he doesn’t want the word to be devoured amidst current material out right now. He soon touched on the long-awaited collaborative J. Cole album, which he says the two are having scheduling conflicts have hindered them like years past.

They last spoke one month ago and is waiting to hear back from the North Carolina rapper after his back home from the road. While we’re hoping the two don’t talk when K. Dot’s on tour, he said the two will definitely try to make it happen. Watch more from the interview in full above.
