Kanye West’s focus was just somewhere else.

It saddens us to hear that Common is no longer on G.O.O.D. Music, but at the end of the day, that’s still his family. Under the terms of his current deal, though, he’s signed under No I.D.’s label Artium on Def Jam and unfortunately Kanye West played no role in the making of his latest album Nobody’s Smiling.

In his sit down with Sway for a special edition of RapFix, Com breaks it all down and says how No I.D. was the main driver of the project, who helped shaped the album for what it is because they took it back to the essence of rap with it.

Common still cherishes everything he did with Yeezy in the past, but their schedules and points in life are at different chapters, which is why they couldn’t link for this project. Even if they never make another song again, Common still wants to remain brothers and cares about their friendship more than the music.

When asked about the media and how they portray Chicago, Common said that the media is driven on ratings so they’re always going to show how bad it is out there. He’s actually working on a show that is going to spotlight on the media in different cities to bring different perspectives in certain situations.

He also spoke on how Rap is a good messenger of what’s actually going on, why he would never go into politics and his Common Ground foundation and how he’s trying to help the community through his organization, helping the kids see hope.
