Nielsen Music history has been broken, thanks to Adele!

Last week, it was first reported that Adele’s new album 25 was had went double platinum in just 72 hours. The London singer was soon on track to surpass the highest selling album sales record for a week, previously set by *NSYNC* and their No Strings Attached album, at 2.4 million. Well, according to Billboard, Adele has shattered that record, selling 3.38 million copies in its first week in the U.S. alone, to set the largest single sales week for an album in history of Nielsen tracking.

She’s also dethroned Taylor Swift’s 1989 for the best-selling album throughout 2015, which has sold 1.8 million copies. The question now remains is whether or not Adele will be able to one-up her 21 LP, which sold 30 million copies worldwide in total – and spent 24 weeks atop of the Billboard 200.
