A Theory on What Future Meant with “It Never Happened”

It Never Happened

After watching a video of Mass Appeal’s latest featured cover star, Future, where he was heard going into short detail of how each mixtape in his catalog came about (from 2010’s 1000 to 2015’s 56 Nights), it got us to thinking of what Future really meant when he said “it never happened” after being asked about What A Time To Be Alive. The album was the number one album in the country at one point, but when the subject of WATTBA came up, you hear him reply numerous times with the same three words. Off top, you automatically jump to assume that he and Drake are on the outs and some tension has built up between the two rap superstars.

What if that isn’t the case, though? What if Future is just hinting at his next mixtape that many fans are waiting for him to release to cap off his most successful year to date?

A year that started with the release of his Monster mixtape in late October in 2014. From then on things just started to take off for the Atlanta rapper and he brought us the release of Beast Mode and 56 Nights a month apart. That ultimately led to the release of the critically-acclaimed DS2.

A reason people can assume they are having some sort of internal beef could be because of the duo’s chemistry while performing on stage with one another being off, even though the two have great chemistry on wax. But how could there be an issue between them already and the relationship sour so quickly? Those “Tony Montana” problems should be behind them by now. Of course, friendships can end fast in the rap world (just look at how fast things got real between Meek Mill and Drake after them having a song together on Meek’s latest album), but Drake was just on Instagram the other day shouting F Hendrix out on his birthday so it can’t be that they fell out.

So we got to thinking, maybe Future is hinting at his next project and telling us that everything from this past year is so hard to believe that it’s almost like it never happened at all. It’s a plausible theory and the title It Never Happened doesn’t seem far fetched. It might be an unlikely reach, but with the many rumored tapes like Monster 2, Beast Mode 2 and Ape Sh!t as expected releases to close out his year, maybe he’s changing it up and going with the prelude instead and attacking with the aforementioned efforts to kick things off in 2016.

Either way, more new Future music is on the way and that’s all we can ask for.

What do you think Hendrix meant with what he said? We can’t be the only ones who found it peculiar and a little odd, right? Let us know in comments.
