“Southpaw” is scheduled to release his Summer
Years in the making, the film that eyed Eminem to play the lead role, is finally scheduled to release this Summer. From acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua, comes a story of tragedy, loss and the painful road to redemption. Starring Academy Award nominated Jake Gyllenhaal, Southpaw follows Billy “The Great” Hope, boxing’s reigning Junior Middleweight Champion, as his life begins to spiral downhill following a tragic accident where his wife ends up being killed.
With his fate all but sealed due to his alcoholic and prescription drugs use, his daughter being taken away from him by Child Services and losing his home, he’s given one last opportunity to fix things, thanks to a washed up former boxer named Tick, who agrees to take him under his wing to start the rebuilding process of making Billy a new man. Working to get his daughter back in his custody, and fight his way back for a professional comeback, Billy faces his demons and learns that, sometimes, your greatest opponent can be yourself.
In addition to Jake Gyllenhaal, the film also stars Rachel McAdams, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Forest Whitaker, Rita Ora, Tyrese Gibson and Miguel Gomez.
