Russell Simmons Planning “Def Comedy Jam” 25th Anniversary Special with HBO

The Def Comedy Jam reunion special is coming!

Russell Simmons is officially heading back to HBO, to produce and develop exclusive projects. In an overall first-look deal with the premium network, Simmons and his All Def Digital media company will produce several projects including a 25th anniversary special of Def Comedy Jam. While the all-star lineup of comedians wasn’t revealed during the press release, the platform helped launch the careers of Martin Lawrence, Bernie Mac, Jamie Foxx, Chris Tucker, Kevin Hart, and Dave Chappelle as you can see above.

At the moment, both sides plan to develop a new comedy reality series These Are My Friends, which will give viewers a look into real-life hip-hop artists struggle. Also, The Broken Lizard Show is expected to be one of the standout projects, which will explore a comedic look into hundreds of years in the future, where a space ship discovers the last white man in the universe, while exploring the universe.

While Def Comedy Jam is obviously the biggest news of this partnership, we’re hopeful that the original contents make its way to HBO GO and HBO Now sometime within the next year. It’s LIT!
