New on Netflix in August 2015

It seems like it was just yesterday that we were telling you about what was coming to Netflix in the month July. Now four weeks later, we’re back and August is officially underway and like the start of every new month, the instant streaming service is getting hit with a new batch of movies, television shows and specials. A few of the notable additions to this month’s selection are: The Netflix original series “Narcos,” “Kill Me Three Times” starring Simon Pegg, Best Picture Oscar winner “The Hurt Locker,” the dramedy “Welcome To Me” with Kristin Wiig and much more.

Thriller/Dramas

1. Asylum, August 1
The 2005 thriller follows as an administrator’s bored wife (Natasha Richardson) begins a torrid affair with an institutionalized artist (Marton Csokas) who beat his wife to death.

2. Beneath the Helmet, August 1
The 2014 action drama centers on five new recruits in the Israeli armed forces who tell their stories, share their dreams, and put their lives on the line to protect their families and homeland.

3. Electric Slide, August 1
The 2014 heist film takes place in 1980s Los Angeles and centers on antique dealer Eddie Dodson (Jim Sturgess), who robs more than 60 banks and becomes known as the “Gentleman Bank Robber.”

4. The Hurt Locker, August 1
The critically acclaimed 2008 war drama is set during the Iraq War and follows a Sergeant recently assigned to an army bomb squad, who is put at odds with his squad mates due to his maverick way of handling his work.

5. The Living, August 1
After beating his wife in an alcohol-fueled rage, a man (Fran Kranz) tries to redeem himself, while his brother-in-law (Kenny Wormald) hires a hit man to kill him

6. War, August 1
Jet Li and Jason Statham star in this 2007 action thriller about an FBI Agent who seeks vengeance on a mysterious assassin known as “Rogue” after he murdered his partner.

7. Kill Me Three Times, August 6
While on a seemingly routine job, a jaded hit man (Simon Pegg) discovers that he’s not the only one with his target in the crosshairs.

8. Lord of War, August 17
Nicolas Cage stars in this 2005 drama thriller about an arms dealer, who confronts the morality of his work as he is being chased by an Interpol agent.

Horror

9. Sorority Row, August 1
A group of sorority sisters try to cover up the death of their house-sister after a prank gone wrong, only to be stalked by a serial killer.

10. Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, August 3
A survivor (Jay Gallagher) of a zombie plague prepares to slash his way through a horde of sinister soldiers and ravenous monsters to rescue his kidnapped sister (Bianca Bradey).

11. Byzantium, August 27
The 2012 horror drama follows as residents of a coastal town learn, with deathly consequences, the secret shared by the two mysterious women who have sought shelter at a local resort.

Romance

12. Bride & Prejudice, August 1
The 2004 romantic musical follows Manorama (Nadira Babbar) and Chaman Bakshi (Anupam Kher) as they frantically seek out the perfect husbands for their four daughters. Yet their eldest daughter, Lalita (Aishwarya Rai), is intent upon marrying at her own choosing, for love.

13. November Rule, August 1
This 2015 release centers on shoe entrepreneur Steve who, still reeling from the death of his dad, makes a “November rule” in order to keep his distance from women before getting too serious. Every November 1st, Steve makes up a lie in order to break up with his current girlfriend. However, this year, when he breaks up with the beautiful Leah, he realizes his immature and arbitrary rule has just lost him the woman of his dreams.

14. Leap Year, August 12
The 2010 rom-com stars Amy Adams as Anna Brady, who plans to travel to Dublin, Ireland to propose marriage to her boyfriend Jeremy on Leap Day, because, according to Irish tradition, a man who receives a marriage proposal on a leap day must accept it.

Indies

15. Dear Frankie, August 1
After having responded to her son’s numerous letters in the guise of his father, a woman hires a stranger to pose as his dad when meeting him. The 2004 indie drama stars Emily Mortimer and Jack McElhone.

16. Welcome to Me, August 6
Kristen Wiig stars in this 2015 comedy drama as a mentally unbalanced lottery winner who goes off her medication, buys a talk show and uses it as a platform to broadcast her bizarre opinions on a wide variety of topics.

17. Two Days, One Night, August 11
The critically acclaimed Belgian indie follows a woman and her husband, who have to convince her colleagues to give up bonuses so she keeps her job. Marion Cottiliard earned an Academy Award nomination for her starring performance in the 2014 flick.

18, Alex of Venice, August 15
The 2015 title, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Chris Messina, follows a workaholic attorney, who is forced to reinvent her life after her husband suddenly leaves.

19. Pariah, August 16
A Brooklyn teenager juggles conflicting identities and risks friendship, heartbreak, and family in a desperate search for sexual expression.

20. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, August 16
Steve Carell stars in this 2012 film as a man who finds himself alone just as an asteroid nears Earth. He decides to take a road trip to reunite with his high school sweetheart. When a neighbor accompanieshim, she inadvertently throws a wrench in his plan.

21. As Cool As I Am, August 20
A precocious teen (Sarah Bolger) has a sexual awakening and later begins to realize that her parents’ (Claire Danes, James Marsden) marriage is not as strong as she thought.

22. Grantham & Rose, August 21
Grantham (Jake T. Austin) struggles to become a man when a spontaneous road trip places him in the care of an 81-year-old African-American woman named Rose (Marla Gibbs).

23. White God, August 27
Failing in his efforts to find his beloved owner (Zsófia Psotta), an abandoned dog eventually joins a canine revolt against their human abusers.

24. Ride, August 29
The 2015 film follows as a magazine editor (Helen Hunt) undergoes an unexpected sea-change when she follows her college-dropout son (Brenton Thwaites) to the beaches of Los Angeles.

Documentaries

25. Casting By, August 1
The 2012 documentary features interviews with acclaimed directors and actors like Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Robert Duvall, Glenn Close, and Al Pacino, that illustrate how casting directors have shaped the direction of Hollywood over the last 50 years.

26. Dogs on the Inside, August 1
Filmed in a Massachusetts prison, the 2014 documentary follows the relationships between abused stray dogs and prison inmates who are working towards a second chance at a better life.

27. Flex is Kings, August 1
Filmmakers Deidre Schoo and Michael Beach Nichols hit the streets of Brooklyn to see a growing local dance style in this 2013 documentary.

28. Russell Brand from Addiction to Recovery, August 1
The television documentary follows actor and comedian Russell Brand, as he campaigns for abstinence-based recovery programs and the compassionate treatment of those struggling with alcohol and drug addiction.

29. My Amityville Horror, August 6
Daniel Lutz, who was a child when the events recounted in Jay Anson’s “The Amityville Horror” occurred, tells his side of the story.

30. Inspector Gadget: Season 2, August 28
The animated TV series follows Inspector Gadget is forced out of retirement after Dr. Claw return. He must team up with Penny and Brain in order to defeat him again.

31. Narcos: Season 1, August 28
The gritty crime drama will give a chronicled look at the criminal exploits of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar.

34. Vexed: Season 1-2, August 1
In this British detective comedy, D.I. Jack Armstrong teams with a partner, most recently charming D.I. Georgina Dixon, to solve crimes throughout the U.K. Rounding out the crime-solving team are Jack’s colleague, Naz, and his best friend, cafe owner Tony, a former cop.

35. Transporter The Series: Season 2, August 7
Based on the hit movie franchise, Transporter: The Series stars Chris Vance as Frank Martin, a professional transporter, who delivers anyone or anything — no questions asked — for a price

36. Doctor Who: Season 8, August 8
The British sci-fi series follows the adventures of the Doctor, a Time Lord who explores the universe in his TARDIS, a sentient time-travelling space ship.

37. Strange Empire: Season 1, August 20
In 1869 Janestown on the Alberta-Montana border, three women band together for survival after the men in their town are murdered.

38. Girl Meets World: Season 1, August 23
From 1993 to 2000, viewers followed the relationship of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence-Matthews on Boy Meets World. 39. Once Upon a Time: Season 4, August 28
