The hype is about to get so real for Chris Rock’s Top Five

It’s Official! Chris Rock’s Top Five movie will be distributed worldwide by Paramount, after a rumored $12.5 million dollar bid.  Written & directed by Chris Rock, the comedy got rave reviews during it’s September 6th debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Top Five holds the title for highest bid of any movie at the festival. We can only assume this flick has serious blockbuster potential to drive such a ferocious bidding war. Hollywood studios typically don’t let the money rain down like that when buying rights to festival films. With that type of money invested and Brad Grey’s longstanding relationship with Chris Rock, his hot new comedy should definitely be a top priority at Paramount.

The Scott Rudin & Barry Diller-financed film will have help from Jay-Z and Kanye West as co-producers, Questlove as Executive Music Producer and Eli Roth receives a producer credit. The film’s dream team collective of producers are not only extremely influential but capable of orchestrating a seriously creative rollout. Let’s hope everyone takes Yeezus’ input serious or Chris Rock’s Top Five could turn into the Blame Game real quick.  The plot of the film is based around a comedian turned film star, who quickly goes back to his comedic ways after meeting a cute journalist. Expect cameo’s from Rock’s real life comedian friends, Jerry Seinfeld & Adam Sandler.

No release date has been set yet, but Chris Rock’s Top Five stars Rosario Dawson, Kevin Hart, Sherri Shepherd, Tracy Morgan, Jay Pharoah and more.
