Backwards Compatibility is on the way for PS2 games!

After rumors last week surfaced that PlayStation 4 could be receiving backwards compatibility for its classic PS2 title, the Japanese-based company has confirmed that something is in the works.

In an interview with WIRED, Sony went to reveal that Star Wars Battlefront will use emulation for titles included in its recently released bundle: Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. The titles are expected to run as if they were on the original PlayStation 2 console, but with higher resolution on the emulator up scaling.

It’s awkward that Sony wouldn’t be promoting this major feature, given its legendary PS2 classics like God of War, Final Fantasy X, and Gran Turismo 3 as some of the standout games we fell in love with last decade. Take a look at the excerpt from the announcement reveal.

“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation,” a Sony representative told WIRED via email. “We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”
