Hate paying for monthly DVR & have an Xbox one? Welcome to heaven!

Earlier today, Microsoft held their Gamescom 2015 event featuring a few of their exclusive titles that looked poorly in development – minus Forza Motorsport 6, of course. The biggest standout reveal from the event was the official burial of Windows Media Center, as Microsoft is fully integrating Windows 10 into its Xbox One console.

With Game DVR updated to support Windows Gaming cross-play, Microsoft has officially announced free-to-air DVR functionality as part of their early 2016 update.

While the goal is to make the console a mainstream set-top-box, this new feature will require a purchase of the digital turner for recording at $60 USD. Unfortunately, Cable and Satellite users won’t be able to use this FREE DVR feature, but we’re curious if SlingTV will support the update next year.
